Mr. Bossa Nova, Joao Gilberto, circa 1969 at the Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Center in New York City. Vitually single handedly, Joao Gilberto created one of the rare musical invasions of the United States beginning with 'Girl From Ipanema', sung by his former wife Astrud. I remember standing outside the Colony Record Shop on Broadway in New York City when I first heard this song. It was love at first listen. The year was 1963 and this new era in music helped my small business due to the demand for istruments never before used in America. My Afuche/Cabasa and cuicas were created as a result of this new musical interest and the growing popularity of stereo sound that used percussion instruments to demonstrate the left/right dimension of this new home audio system.
