Tommy Lopez performing at Madison Square Garden. I first met Tommy when he was a conga drummer with the Eddie Palmieri Orchestra and his style influenced percussionists like Chembo and Steve Kroon. His ability to extract a wide range of tones and expressions from one drum is most notable. Sometime after Tommy turned 50, he decided he had enough conga drumming and changed careers to that of a truck driver.
