Venezuelan-born
percussionist/LP endorser Roberto Quintero began
playing percussion at age 16 and was, like countless
other percussionists, influenced by "El Rey
del timbal", Tito
Puente. Though his first instrument was a
pair of LP bongos, he soon began playing LP congas
and timbales. He chose LP instruments because
they provided him with a "conversation of
sounds" to make music with, and he has since
added djembe, batas, shekeres, shakers, and other
LP instruments to create music "for all languages."
Among his more notable performance/recording credits
are Oscar de Leon, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Eddie
Palmieri, Ray Barretto, Timbalaye, Cachao,
Gerardo
Rosales and Gato Barbieri. Other current and
upcoming releases include projects with Gonzalo
Rubalcaba, Bobby Watson, Bobby
Sanabria, and Issac
Delgado, as well as a European tour with La
India and recent recordings with Marc
Anthony.
Roberto's "in-the-pocket" style of playing,
along with his ability to play many different
instruments, has enabled him to keep busy working
with many high profile artists in Latin music.
