Beth Israel Hospital of New York sponsored a concert in the playground of Charles Schurz Park on August 01, 2001. The event was just one of the numerous neighborhood concerts featuring accomplished musicians that are organized around the City in the spring and summer months.

The band, led by Ralphie Irizarry on timbales, included Little Johnny Rivero on conga, Ruben Rodriguez on bass, Edwin Sanchez on keyboard, and Pete Nater on trumpet. Special guest appearances included Ron Powell, percussionist with Madonna; and Daniel de los Reyes, percussionist with Earth Wind and Fire. Local residents attended the performance.
