RAICES: THE ROOTS OF LATIN MUSIC EXHIBIT
AT THE MUSEUM OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK

I had the privilege of attending the opening night ceremonies of Raíces:The Roots of Latin Music in New York City. Raíces is an exhibit held at the Museum of the City of New York that pays homage to the recognized pioneers and the overlooked individuals whose vibrant music has left an indelible imprint on the development of Latin music and indeed american culture.

Curated by musician and folklorist Louis
Bauzó, this exhibit features, among other exhibits, a slide show presentation comprised of classic black and white photographs from my personal archive. These photos, some dating back to the 1950's, feature great Latin artists such as Tito Puente, Machito, Mongo Santamaria, Tito Rodriguez, Willie Bobo, Candido Camero, Patato Valdez, Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey and Giovanni Hidalgo among many others.
