1922 - 2007
On September 15, 2007 Gordon "Specs" Powell, one of the most influential people in the development of LP, died at the age of 85 in San Diego, California. I first met Specs in 1964 when he was the drummer with the Ed Sulivan show and one of the busiest percussionists in NY. We became fast friends and he encouraged me in so many ways, not the least of which was making me create a means to mount the bongos I made for him on a stand. He pointed me in the direction of the recording studio and to serving a broader of musical spectrum than Latin thus enabling the creating of the expansive catalog that LP sells. He is survived by his wife Peggy of over 41 years, his two daughters, Donna and Tina and his step son, Ted. He was a giant of a man and will be missed.
